    A child (A person under 20 years of age) is considered to:

•  be overweight if they have a BMI over the 95th percentile for their age.
 •  at risk of becoming overweight if they have a BMI between the 85th & 95th
    percentile for their age.
  •  underweight if they have a BMI under the 5th percentile for their age.
   •  have a healthy BMI if it is between the 5th & 85th percentile.

    Jane is at risk of becoming overweight as she is at the 86 percentile rank in the population. Overweight & obese individuals are at increased risk for many diseases & health conditions, including the following:

•  Dyslipidemia (e.g. high LDL or low HDL cholesterol, or high triglyceride levels.)
 •  Hypertension
  •  Type 2 diabetes
   •  Coronary heart disease
    •  Stroke
     •  Osteoarthritis
      •  Gallbladder disease
       •  Some cancers (endometrial, breast, & colon)
