The three main forms of ASD are autism, Asperger syndrome, &
PDD
-NOS. Autism forms the core of the autism spectrum disorders. Asperger syndrome is closest to autism in signs & likely causes. Pervasive developmental disorder not otherwise specified (PDD-NOS) is diagnosed when the criteria are not met for a more specific disorder. Some sources also include Rett syndrome & childhood disintegrative disorder, which share several signs with autism but may have unrelated causes. It considers both the strengths of the adaptive unconscious, for example in expert judgment, & its pitfalls such as stereotypes. Gladwell proposes that "Thin-slicing" ( our ability to gauge what is really important from a very narrow period of experience ) is often as good as or even better than carefully planned & considered decision making processes.

Bogus pipeline: A procedure that fools people into disclosing their attitudes. Participants are first convinced that a machine can use their psychological responses to measure their private attitudes, then they are asked to predict the machine's reading, thus revealing their attitudes. It refers also to a phony lie-detector device that is sometimes used to get respondents to give truthful answers to sensitive questions.

Brainwashing: potent social indoctrination.

The butterfly effect  is a phrase that encapsulates the more technical notion of sensitive dependence on initial conditions in chaos theory. In more extreme cases, symptoms can include labor pains, postpartum depression, and nosebleeds. The labor pain symptom is commonly known as sympathy pain. Couvade syndrome is not a recognized medical condition. Its source is a matter of debate. Some believe it to be a psychosomatic condition, while others believe it may have biological causes relating to hormone changes.

The greater the underlying vulnerability, the less stress is needed to trigger the behavior / disorder. Conversely, where there is a smaller genetic contribution greater life stress is required to produce the particular result. Even so, someone with a diathesis towards a disorder does not necessarily mean they will ever develop the disorder. Both the diathesis & the stress are required for this to happen.

Dichotomy: a division into two especially mutually exclusive or contradictory groups or entities. Something with seemingly contradictory qualities.

This often happens when a large immigrant group begins to settle in mass numbers in a new country. The Irish were accused of being backwards and uncultured, and it was assumed that they were uneducated, dirty, and a general pox on society. As a result, the use of the word “Irish” began to be pejorative.

The Glossary or stuff I'd like to remember.
                    Robert C. Gates

New“Things don't have purposes, as if the universe were a machine, where every part has a useful function. What's the function of a galaxy? I don't know if our life has a purpose and I don't see that it matters. What does matter is that we're a part. Like a thread in a cloth or a grass-blade in a field. It is and we are. What we do is like wind blowing on the grass.”
